1939 adWorld's Fair Donuts
This is an unusual full-page color ad published in June, 1939, for the Doughnut Corporation of America.
It measures 10 x 14 inches in size and is in excellent and attractive condition.
Its largest illustration is a painting of a tray of scrumptious donuts, over the headline,
“Enjoy these delicious WORLD'S FAIR DONUT at home . . . today!”
Its text begins:
“HOORAY! Now
you
can enjoy these melt-in-your-mouth donuts that millions of people at both World's Fairs are raving about! . . .”
The ad also touts the luscious fare which will be found at the pair of World's Fairs then going on on both coasts of America. The other two paintings in the ad originate from those Fairs, and have captions saying:
“THE DONUT TOWER looms high above the beautiful San Francisco World's Fair, and attracts thousands of hungry Fair-goers who are discovering that Tested Quality Donuts are the tastiest treasure on Treasure Island!”
And:
“THE DONUT CASINO, at the New York World's Fair, is a striking monument to the glorious goodness of Mayflower Tested Quality Donuts. Crowds are flocking here—and to the Donut Palace in the Amusement Area—for these delicious donuts!”
It notes that DCA donuts are available under various brand names, including Mayflower and Downyflake.
